  1. I'm a little concerned the structure may be too noticeable for people to "stumble upon" I think it would be really cool if you made it sort of a hidden underground cavern that you could walk down into.

  2. I really like the idea of have visitors being able to experience what it's like to be underground and having them feel the temperature difference. Something to think about may be how mobile the exhibit is and how it could fit into a different setting.

  3. I really enjoyed this project. I think it’s a really good idea and that it begins to work on many different levels. One thing that may be considered is the possibility of maybe having the ability to step within the exhibit, creating a more dramatic effect. I have one project to show you guys that your project reminds me of. The project is Estadio Omnilife, it’s a new soccer stadium in Mexico. The concept behind it was to create this artificial hill in which the stadium would be built into. You essentially walk into this hill and emerge inside the stadium. It has nothing to do with your project except maybe the idea of using earth to cover it, but who knows, maybe you’ll get some inspiration from it.

  4. Geothermal Force – Instructor Comments

Presentation: Convincing presentation of concept, site and impact/indicators. Graphics may have led to misunderstandings, but talk clarified them.

    - Design:
    - Good site location but would require years of approval; this is no reason to change site just be aware that it limits your access to user groups in other places
    - Think about how to maximize the subterranean zones: how can house model utilize temperatures at different strata?
    - Relationship between above grade and below grade currently weak; how can a user understand the relationship between the two from one location?
    - Try to connect this to local circumstances (Chad: fish hatchery in Paso; SLO has geothermal activity as evidenced by hot springs, etc)
    - Overall, interactivity could be stronger; experience risks being passive; make sure the exhibit is understood as more than a shade structure
    - learning objectives could be better defined.- how to connect to user’s personal life?

    Positives:
    - Exhibit has potential to be experiential and immersive. This is appealing.
    - Feedback indicates this is a relevant and important topic, so you’re on the right path; on the other hand it's a challenge to make something underground visible to the user. Keep pushing your idea further to accomplish this!
